چکیده
This study was centered on improving the mechanical properties of AISI 8620 steel using carburization technique. The failure in service conditions many components such as cams, gears, and shafts necessitated research it demands that they possess both high wear-resistant surfaces tough shock-resistant cores. Standard test samples prepared from material were subjected to a pack process rice husk charcoal carburizers, energizer – calcium trioxocarbonate (IV) at temperatures 800, 850, 900, 950 °C, held for 60, 90, 120 minutes. quenched water tempered 500°C 60 After hardening process, tensile, impact, hardness tests. From data obtained, ultimate tensile strength (UTS), Hardness, Young’s Modulus, engineering strain, impact calculated. case core carburized noted, an optical microscope used observe microstructural features case-hardened, quenched, samples. responses (mechanical steel) optimized response surface methodology obtain optimum carburizing conditions-temperature holding time. Results showed sample’s microhardness increased 253 327 HV 243 339 time minutes, indicating appreciable increase property temperature 885 °C Hence, carburizers improved material’s case, core, properties.
